The seasons have changed and here comes fall and Christmas. It’s hard when you have your store and are the one in charge to know what kind of schedule to get on, especially when you are new to the game, a procrastinator and bad at time management and planning. Especially when I find out people in retail place their Christmas orders in August!!! I probably should have had a lot done by now but I am learning. I think I need a systems person. Is there someone like that? I can tell them what systems, lists, procedures I want in place and they make it happen…not only physically but on paper…..to create the dreaded policies and procedures manual. I know I can do it. It’s just a matter of sitting up here after work and doing it!!!

Even though it is still hot as heck outside I am trying to come up with my cooking classes for the near future when fall and cooler temperatures are upon us. I know that no one wants to learn how to cook in a 90 degree kitchen. Do people want to learn how to cook healthy? Do they need basic knife skills? What about learning different regional cuisine or international cuisine? Most cooking procedures are always the same, no matter what area of the country you’re in or part of the world for that matter. What is the part that changes? The flavors or ingredients. Instead of cilantro, it’s parsley or instead of a German beer you are using a French wine but deglazing is always deglazing. What would I like to do classes on? Mexican of course….Lebanese…maybe some French, definitely regional…..biscuits and gravy? Who cares…if you LOVE food, you love it all!!

Football season is upon us and no matter who your team, you look forward to fall weather, cheering for your team and tailgating. Whether you bring your camper or have a reserved spot or meander from tailgate to tailgate……it is a way of life. I like to walk along and see how elaborate the current tailgators have gotten, televisions, fans, heaters, grills. Everything you need, you don’t even have to go to the game. Trying to get to a game while working on a Saturday is another story!! I think I could cook for a tailgate all day long! I love all the football food. It’s like you are practicing for the Superbowl and are perfecting your recipes for that party that is on its way. I will be getting my recipes perfected for the Superbowl with all these tailgate parties.
